Export Controls Policy

Export Controls are legal restrictions on the transfer of certain goods, equipment, materials, software and technology from the UK to a destination(s) outside the UK with the aim of protecting national security and preventing conflict, human rights abuse, weapons of mass destruction (WMD) proliferation and terrorism. Other reasons for export control include foreign policy & international treaty commitments (e.g., trade sanctions/arms embargoes).

Export Controls apply to both research and teaching activities. All individuals (including staff, students, visiting academics and contractors) have an obligation and responsibility to ensure they comply with Export Controls legislation and requirements.
