Impact and Innovation Framework

What is the Impact and Innovation Framework?

The College recognised the need to build a robust dynamic impact ecosystem, where research impact opportunities are identified from the pre-proposal stage onwards, and academics are provided with the necessary support to develop these opportunities as they evolve. To achieve this, the Impact and Innovation Framework (IIF) was introduced in May 2022.

Why did we introduce the framework?

The objective of the Impact and Innovation Framework is to monitor and manage the CoSE Impact and Innovation Pipeline to ensure that:

  • opportunities are identified
  • development plans are created, owned, and monitored
  • evidence of impact is collated in a timely and appropriate manner.

What does the framework involve?

  • Monthly review meetings are held to ensure all opportunities are given the timely support they need to maximise their potential.
  • We continue to develop operational processes, including those for data and evidence collection.
  • A monthly CoSE Impact and Innovation Pipeline report is issued to each School within the College and an overview provided as part of the monthly CMG report.
  • The pipeline feeds directly into the UofG central Impact and Innovation Pipeline, providing benchmarking data on impact for SMG, HEBCIS and, HESA etc.

What does the framework mean for me as a researcher?

A formal process now exists within the College to identify impact and innovation opportunities. This can occur via:

  • formal impact audits
  • informal updates
  • researcher impact opportunity disclosure
  • Impact Acceleration Acounts (IAA)/Knowledge Exchange (KE)/other internal application.

The College Impact Officer will work with you to create an Impact Development Plan. This plan will include input from members of the Commercialisation Team, College Research Development Manager, Industry Engagement Manager and others as appropriate.
