European/international Funding

The University's overseas team can provide support to develop and submit EU/International grant proposals:

International Partnership Development Fund (IPDF)

The IPDF supports the initial development of international partnerships. The funding is for up to a maximum of £5000 with 50% match funding support from your school or college. The IPDF is for University of Glasgow staff and is not suitable for PhD students.

Visit the IPDF web page to find out more, including examples of existing IPDF projects and partners, travel and funding criteria, and how to apply.

UKRI funding via our Impact Acceleration Account (IAA)

UK Research Innovation (UKRI) awarded the University £5.2M across a portfolio of Impact Acceleration Accounts (IAA) in 2022. The funding is meant for projects that translate research into impact.

As a researcher at the College of Science & Engineering, you can apply for funding from two IAA accounts. Find out more:

About UKRI

Launched in April 2018, UKRI is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). It works in partnership with universities, research organisations, businesses, charities, and government to create the best possible environment for research and innovation to flourish.

UKRI brings together the seven disciplinary research councils, Research England, which is responsible for supporting research and knowledge exchange at higher education institutions in England, and the UK’s innovation agency, Innovate UK.

Royal Society

International Exchanges Scheme – Standard Programme

The Scheme is designed to offer a flexible platform for UK based scientists to interact with the best scientists around the world. Funds for a contribution towards travel, subsistence and research expenses can be requested for either a one-off short visit to explore opportunities for building lasting networks or for bilateral visits to strengthen emerging collaborations.

This scheme is not intended to support continued research activities between a UK applicant and a co-applicant who was a former colleague or PhD student or to support other existing or recent collaborations between the applicant and co-applicant. Rather, the scheme is intended to stimulate new collaborations between scientists in the UK and overseas.
