Professor Wim Vanderbauwhede, School of Computing Science
‘Frugal Computing’
I am interested in reducing energy and resource usage from computing through a systemic approach. I would like to work with people with a similar focus, in particular experts on end user behaviour and economic policy. My main funding idea at the moment is for a programme grant on green data centre. My vision is of a society that is frugal with its computer resources and where science and engineering helps to improve this frugality, so that computing will serve our needs without compromising our future.
Dr Katarzyna Chalaczkiewicz-Ladna, School of Law
‘Situating Just Transition as a Distinct Legal Concept’
My research concentrates on accountability of the board of directors, sustainable development, and company law in comparative dimension more broadly, with my presentation focusing on specific application within a sustainable energy context. I am open to collaborating with all other disciplines across the Centre for Sustainable Energy, or anyone specifically interested in my research on sustainable companies and Just Transition.
Dr Rhys Williams, School of Critical Studies
‘Glasgow’s Energyshed'
My research is on the cultural, social, and political dimensions of infrastructure, with a particular focus on food, energy, and community. I am especially interested in working across disciplines, and with external stakeholders, to produce research that speaks to real-world problems. With regards the Energyshed project, I am particularly interested in collaboration with Engineering, History, Politics, Law, and Social Science, local council, local energy cooperatives, and communities. I would be interested in any collaborations and suggestions that emerge from engaging with CoSE. My plans involve stepping up the Energyshed project through winning funding to create a large-scale model of what it might look like, how it might work, and how it might come into being, which would require a team of academics from different disciplines working with policy, industry and community representatives. To this end I have so far applied (unsuccessfully) to the AHRC Mission Pilot and am on the look out for other suitable streams.
