Dr Johannes Courtial from the School of Physics & Astronomy recently appeared as an expert in an episode of the BBC programme "Coast". He explained the physics of the "green flash", an atmospheric phenomenon that can cause the top of sun to appear green as it is setting or rising above the sea. Dr Courtial even succeeded in performing -- in challenging weather conditions -- a demonstration experiment that creates an artificial green flash. On her Twitter feed, presenter Tessa Dunlop commented "who cares about scottish rain when you have a German scientist!!"
