Peter Blyth - Resourcing Co-ordinator

I’ve been involved with Staff recruitment at the University for 16 years in a number of roles and currently work as a Resourcing Coordinator in the College of Science and Engineering. This gives me the opportunity  to act as a link between our College Finance Teams, hiring managers Schools and colleagues within the central recruitment function in support of diverse and inclusive recruitment activity across all areas of the College.

Picking up from CoSE Research Finance or key School contacts on a need to recruit I support the recruiting area through the full recruitment cycle in a number of ways. Each recruitment starts with a consultation with the hiring manger looking at job descriptions, discussing tailored advertising and target audience to develop innovative attraction plans to ensure opportunities in the college our promoted appropriately securing the best candidate from the widest possible range of applicants.

In addition with my colleagues in Peeople and Organisational Development, I deliver a number of Recruitment and Selection Training sessions throughout the year that ensures first time hiring managers are well versed in our policies and practices throughout the recruitment process when they come to recruit such as understanding unconscious bias and the Disability Confident Scheme.

By encouraging our hiring managers to consider new approaches to talent attraction, to review applications on their individual merits and recruit outside of our own image or pre-conceptions about what the ideal candidate looks like I feel positive that I’ve aided in the College and University continuing to encourage, welcome and enjoy the benefits of a diverse and inclusive workforce to our culture and values
