ScotPEN Wellcome Engagement Award
The ScotPEN Wellcome Engagement Award (SWEA) is now closed. Wellcome funded researchers at Scottish universities are able to access Wellcome funding and support for public engagement through the Research Enrichment: Public Engagement scheme.
The ScotPEN Wellcome Engagement Award (SWEA) was a pilot scheme offering funding of up to £100,000 for Wellcome grantholders in Scotland to engage the public with their research.
Funded by Wellcome, SWEA was designed to improve the quality and quantity of research engagement projects and to create opportunities for inter-institutional collaborations and partnership working.
During Phase 1 (2019-20) twelve projects from across Scotland were funded, in two funding rounds, with a total value of £460,000. Phase 2 hosted two further funding calls in 2021. Round 3 supporting a total of 3. The outcome of the final funding call Round 4 will be announced in December 2021.
A SWEA training programme was available to award holders and public engagement staff. it included several sessions on topical issues delivered in partnership with the Scottish Science Centres. Recordings and slides from these sessions are available.
