Burden of Treatment in Chronic Illness
Published: 30 January 2023
Chronic illness comes with many challenges, not least the burden of managing your treatment. This project looks at this delicate balance and asks what can be done to help.
Nowadays, many people live with one or more long-term health conditions including; diabetes, heart failure, depression and chronic pain. It can become hard for patients to cope with these diseases, due to medical appointments, dietary and lifestyle adjustments as well as organising prescriptions.
The researchers investigated the treatment burden and capacity across several health conditions and found it to be a very important issue for people living with these conditions. However, healthcare professionals are often unaware of these challenges. The proposed exhibit will allow the public to engage and learn more about this topic, through interactive games and animations. The exhibition will educate the public on what it is like to live with a long term condition and provide ideas on how to manage these conditions more easily.
This project is led by Dr Barbara Nicholl from the School of Health and Wellbeing.
