The strategic partnership affirms the University’s role in producing world-leading research, and underlines the commitment of the two organisations to work together to align their strategies.

The University currently receives more than £33m from the BBSRC to fund research in fundamental biosciences which underpin our understanding of human and animal disease, create great food security, and drive forwards leading international research programmes and opportunities.

Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak, Vice Principal and Head of the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences, said: “The University of Glasgow is delighted to be the BBSRC’s latest strategic partner. This partnership is grounded in the outstanding research undertaken by our staff, which BBSRC supports with over £33M of current funding.

“I look forward to an even closer working relationship with the BBSRC as we progress our shared research priorities.”

The University will look to work closely with the BBSRC on contributing to the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy, feeding into ideas on how to transform world-leading research into commercial outcomes.

Strategic partnership with the BBSRC involves increased dialogue between them and senior management of partner universities. Through that dialogue the aim is to better understand mutual strategic priorities and direction to enable a more joined-up, synergistic and efficient approach to investment.

Dr Paul Burrows, Executive Director, Corporate Policy and Strategy, BBSRC added, “Funding of excellence, wherever found in the university system, remains at the heart of our philosophy. However, we recognise certain universities, based on their volume of BBSRC competitive funding and/or strength in our strategic priority areas, are particularly important to help us deliver our ambitious strategy for UK bioscience.

We therefore are delighted to welcome the University of Glasgow as our newest Strategic Partner.”
