The Living Laboratory recently welcomed students from Glasgow Clyde College for a hands-on day of STEM exploration. Designed to provide real-world insights into healthcare innovation, the visit offered students the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technology and interactive learning experiences.

The day began at the Nicol Training Lab, where students took part in practical science activities, including DNA sequencing simulations and blood typing. These interactive exercises highlighted the vital role of laboratory science in diagnosing and treating diseases, giving students a practical insight into biomedical careers.

A highlight was a tour of the Imaging Centre of Excellence (ICE), home to Scotland’s only 7 Tesla clinical MRI scanner. Here, students got an up-close look at how advanced imaging technology is revolutionising patient care. The day wrapped up with a fun MRI scan chocolate challenge, reinforcing their learning in an engaging way.

The event was made possible thanks to the support of expert volunteers, including Lindsay Morrison, Himanshu Kumar Sinha, Graeme Keith, Janhavi Ghosalkar, and Frances Cousins, whose knowledge helped bring the experience to life.

The Living Laboratory is committed to inspiring young people to explore diverse careers in STEM and take an active role in shaping the future of healthcare. By providing hands-on experiences and insights, we aim to empower students to see the vast opportunities available in these fields.
