FAQs

Q  How many courses must I take?

If you are a full-time, first year, student you must have a curriculum of 120 credits, consisting of two compulsory courses (80 credits) and then a further 40 optional credits. You must enrol on your full 120 credits at the start of session.

Q  Who is my Adviser of Studies?

Details of your Adviser of Studies will be made available in your MyCampus record as soon as you possible following commencement of registration. You must meet your adviser of studies for the first time before Friday 6 October.

Q  Is attendance compulsory?

Attendance is not compulsory at lectures. However, statistics show that there is a definite correlation between attendance and the grades that students achieve. We will monitor attendance at some lectures and labs.

Q  Can I work part-time whilst I am a student?

There is a recommended maximum of 12 hours per week during the academic year. If you are struggling financially with these hours you should contact Registry regarding their Emergency Funds & Other Aid.

Q  When do I get my timetable?

You will not receive a hard copy of your timetable; it will be available online in your MyCampus record once you have enrolled on your courses.

Q  I've chosen the wrong course(s), what can I do?

Do not withdraw without discussing your options with your adviser. You may be judging matters too early without being fully aware of how your courses develop. You may even identify an alternative degree that you consider to be more appealing. In some cases, it is easier to transfer after even partial completion of your existing curriculum than to give up entirely and achieve nothing from your first year of undergraduate study.

Q  Will it be easy to change my degree if I change mind?

Yes, because it's not until the end of second year that you are required to finalise your choice of subject for your 3rd and 4th year Honours programme. You will be offered to change within Life Sciences at the end of Level-1 and again at the end of Level-2; however, entry to your Honours programme is competitive and will be based on your grades and overall GPA.

Q  What is the Transfer Policy?

Whilst you are expected to enter university with a clear focus on your Intending Honours Programme, we understand that this is not always the case and it is possible for you to change your mind. Please read the University's Transfer Policy.

If you are experiencing difficulty with study habits, you may find it helpful to consult one of our advisers in the Learning Enhancement & Academic Development Service (LEADS).

Q  What do I do if I am ill or can't make a class?

Please read the Absence Policy.
