The University has achieved five new Athena SWAN awards – including two Bronze for Arts - in in recognition of its ongoing commitment to gender equality for staff and students.

This brings the current total of Athena SWAN awards at UofG to 22 awards - including the University’s institutional Athena SWAN Bronze Award which it gained  in 2013. It is applying for a Silver institutional award in the upcoming assessment round.

This year, the School of Critical Studies and the School of Modern Languages and Cultures in the College of Arts have both gained Bronze awards.

The Institute of Biodiversity, Animal Health and Comparative Medicine gained an Athena SWAN Silver departmental award  in October 2016 but has now upgraded that award to the more progressive and challenging Silver award under the Athena SWAN Charter; the Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation and the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing have both gained Silvers.

Professor Jill Morrison, the University's Gender Champion, said: "The University's latest Athena Swan awards are a recognition and celebration of the strides the University continues to make in the advancement of gender equality and prioritising support of one of the founding principles of the Athena Swan charter - representation, progression and success for all."

The awards are made by Advance HE (formerly the Equality Challenge Unit or ECU). There are three levels of Athena SWAN awards: Bronze (planning), Silver (doing), Gold (sustaining).
