Gaelic and the University of Glasgow
Gaelic Language Day / Latha na Gàidhlig is a showcase event which highlights the ongoing work of the University’s Gaelic Language Initiative, which organises Gaelic-related events and learning opportunities for staff and students throughout the year.
The University’s Gaelic Language Officer, Fiona Dunn, said, “It is important that Gaelic Language Day features a wide range of events that are engaging to the many groups that make up the University community and our annual club night is particularly important for our students and young people in Glasgow.
“We believe that Gaelic culture has a place in contemporary Glasgow which is increasingly young and international and we are working with some of the most talented young Gaelic-speaking musicians in Glasgow who share our ambition to present Gaelic in new and exciting ways.”
Gaelic Language Day falls on the same week as the first ever Scottish Gaelic Awards / Duaisean na Gàidhlig, sponsored by a partnership involving The Daily Record, Bòrd na Gàidhlig, MGAlba, Media Scotland, Education Scotland, Cosla, Highland and Islands Enterprise, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Creative Scotland.
The University’s Gaelic Language Officer, Fiona Dunn, is a finalist in the ‘Work-Place Initiative’ category, having been nominated for multiple categories.
