Voices Unheard: A Tribute to Women of History
Our project is a multimedia display. The display aims to be a museum of untold histories, which will have a curated list of female figures from various disciplines within the humanities—literature, philosophy, arts, social sciences, and more—whose stories and achievements have been underrepresented or forgotten. Each figure will have a dedicated section supplemented with QR codes that could link to further readings or examples of their works, allowing visitors to dive deeper into each woman's story.
The project aims not just to educate and inform but to inspire a reevaluation of how history is recorded and remembered. By highlighting the contributions of women who were overshadowed, it challenges traditional narratives and encourages a more inclusive approach to history where works went unnoticed.
The video we aim to supplement will contain a footage of interviews conducted around university of Glasgow asking who their favorite historical female figure is. The combination of our video and the narratives with in-depth multimedia displays ensures that visitors leave with an understanding of these women's lives and legacies, fostering a sense of connection across time and cultures.
About the Students
My name is Emilie Flower. As a second-year undergraduate majoring in History, I aspire to enter the field of law with the intent of advocating for marginalized voices. This project represents an opportunity for me to cultivate skills to help those whose voices are often overlooked. This project underscores the significance of fostering female empowerment and solidarity, but also a step toward achieving greater inclusivity and equality in our society. I believe it is crucial to acquaint ourselves with formidable and inspiring female figures from various backgrounds. Over centuries, women have faced immense struggles to attain representation and influence, only recently beginning to gain acknowledgement and agency. Rather than conforming to stereotypical gender roles, we should strive for a world that celebrates equality and embraces diversity, enabling everyone to express themselves freely.
My name is Sara Bucheeri, and I'm a Digital Media and Information Studies student with a passion for exploring the interaction of marginalized identities with digital media. I'm deeply intrigued by untold histories and how they shape our understanding of the world. I am interested in the complexities of representation and power dynamics within historical documentation, recognizing the inherent biases that shape whose voices are heard and whose stories are told. I firmly believe in the importance of questioning who gets included in history and what gets documented and archived, particularly recognizing the absence of certain identities in written history. This project provides a unique opportunity to delve into these issues, fostering critical conversations about inclusivity, representation, and the significance of acknowledging diverse perspectives in shaping our understanding of the past and present.
