The Empire Café is currently asking the question, Who Owns the Clyde? The project began as a mapping exercise exploring ownership of the River Clyde, from Glasgow Green to Pacific Quay. Difficulties around mapping ownership led to a public event during Architecture Fringe 2023, and the decision to make a podcast Who Owns the Clyde? (Producer Halina Rifai) which we will launch at a Listening Party on Friday 7th.
We would also like to hear your opinions, hopes and dreams for the River Clyde and its future. Perhaps you can tell us Who Owns the Clyde? Who owns its banks, the riverbed, the water and sky above?
The Empire Cafe was established in 2014. It provokes welcome conversations around land ownership, the history and ongoing effects of empire via cross cultural events, poetry, visual and plastic arts, public discussions, sound based works and more. Co-directors Jude Barber and Louise Welsh.
