Join us for a free two-day event to celebrate the creative contributions of people of colour, hosted by Civic House on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13, 2024.
This festival celebrates both our collective identity as PoC and the intersectionality and diversity of our stories, cultures, and art forms. In this two-day event, we bring to Glasgow’s Civic House a range of creative practices around food, performance, music and film.
Both days will kickstart with PoC-exclusive workshops. On Friday April 12, we’ll have Lil Green of No Bindings lead an interactive zine-making workshop on digital memory. In the evening, there will be a welcome provocation by Zandra Yeaman, Curator of Discomfort at the Hunterian, followed by a range of film screenings, including the Palestinian filmmaker Razan Madhoon’s award-winning film Go Home (2021), maud (2022) from trailblazing Scottish-Zimbabwean curator-programmer-producer Natasha Thembiso Ruwona, and Debalina Mujinder’s Gay India Matrimony (2020).
We’re back on Saturday April 13 with another workshop by Thousand&One, aimed exclusively at women of colour. In the afternoon, we’ll indulge in a culinary workshop by Parveen’s Canteen, thinking about the connections between stories and food. In the evening we’ll bring onto our stage two musical performances by Marlo De Lara and Diljeet Bhachu. We’ll end the night with drinks in hand and dancing shoes on, brought to you by DJs Effua Ibojie, Hu-Sane, and Anahita Saleh, in partnership with Subcity Radio.
This event centers the voices, experiences, and creativity of people of colour in Glasgow, sharing amongst ourlarger community. Storytelling sits at the heart of these creative practices, and celebrates the resilience, joy, and talent of PoC artists.
