Anna Louise Simpson’s AI-driven art features in Sotheby’s New York Contemporary Art Auction alongside works of Warhol, Richter & Rauschenberg.
Alumna Dr Anna Louise Simpson (PhD 1993) has had her artwork, Les Drones de la Banlieue, featured in Sotheby’s New York Contemporary Art Auction this winter, placing her at the forefront of a new wave of contemporary art. Anna’s work showcases AL-driven creativity alongside some contemporary art legends such as Andy Warhol, Richard Prince, Gerhard Richter, and Robert Rauschenberg.
Born in Scotland, Anna has built a career as a trailblazing crypto artist, merging AI, blockchain, and video art to create works that redefine the possibilities of digital expression. Les Drones de la Banlieue has now been sold as the auction’s second British AI Video Artwork and the first Scottish AI Video Artwork, making this a groundbreaking moment in the recognition of AI art.
In reflection of this huge achievement, Anna said:
“This is a moment I never imagined when I first began working with AI. To be in the same Sotheby’s auction as Warhol, Richter, and Rauschenberg—artists who revolutionised contemporary art—is beyond what I could have hoped for. But more than that, it’s a signal that AI-driven art is now an essential part of the conversation in the highest echelons of the art world.”
