Visa Registration: For New Students
Welcome, World Changer!
We're so glad you're here. Before you become an official University of Glasgow student, you must complete Visa Registration.
The University is required to check the immigration status for all students who are not nationals of the UK or Ireland, including home fee payers and those who do not require a Student Visa.

How to Complete Visa Registration
Let's get started on your Visa Registration journey! Identify yourself below and ensure you complete the necessary steps to becoming an official University of Glasgow student.

I am travelling to the UK as a visitor and studying at the University for one semester
This includes ‘non-visa nationals’ who were able to enter the UK without obtaining a visa or using the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
- Upload a copy of your passport at Step 11 of Academic Registration. If you have already entered the UK at the time of completing this step and have a stamp in your passport, you can also upload a copy of that.
- Book an appointment to attend Visa Registration and bring your passport, a copy of your flight information (showing entry to the UK - this can be on your phone or on a paper ticket) and a note of your UK address.
Please note: If you are from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, USA or the European Economic Area/Switzerland, please check the information on Electronic Travel Authorisation to see if it is required for you.
You will need to bring copy of your flight/travel information to show us the date you entered the UK (e.g. boarding pass, flight itinerary or e-ticket). This can be on your phone/device or on paper. This is because you probably won’t receive an entry stamp on arrival to the UK, and we need to record your date of arrival in our systems.

I applied for my visa outside the UK and it has been issued as an e-Visa
- Upload a copy of your passport at Step 11 of Academic Registration.
- View your Visa status and get a Share Code. If you are asked for the reason for providing the share code, select Something Else or Another Reason. Your share code should begin with the letter S and have 9 characters.
- Submit your Share Code to us using our form in the Helpdesk (log in with your GUID and password to access).
- Once you have submitted your Share Code, book an appointment to attend Visa Registration and bring:
- Your passport
- Your share code (in case we need to check it again)
- A copy of your flight details (e.g. boarding pass, flight itinerary or e-ticket). This can be on your phone/device or on paper.
- A note of your UK address (this can be on your phone/device or on paper)
Make sure your Visa Registration Appointment is at least three working days after you provide us with your Share Code to allow sufficient time to update your Student Record.
Important notice for Student Visa applicants travelling to the UK
Do not attempt to travel to the UK before your visa has been fully approved and issued, even if you can normally visit the UK without a visa. Doing this does not allow you to study.
Additionally, ensure you only travel to the UK on your Student Visa after its start date or 'valid from' date. Attempting to enter the UK before your Student Visa becomes valid may result in you not being to study your programme.

I completed my previous course at the University (including UofG pre-sessional) on a Student Visa, and I am now progressing onto a new course here
- Upload a copy of your passport and the visa/BRP you had for your previous course undertaken at the University at Step 11 of . If you have already submitted your new Visa application, please also upload a PDF of your UKVI application form or Document Checklist showing the date you submitted your Visa Application. If you have not yet submitted your new Visa application, you must submit it no later than 6 weeks after the start of your new course.
- Book an appointment to attend Visa Registration and bring a paper copy of your UKVI Supporting Document Checklist or Application Form. If you have recieved it, please also bring your new BRP. If you have not yet recieved your new BRP, you can still commence onto your new course, but you must provide the University with your BRP as soon as you receive it.

I completed a previous course at another University (or GIC) on a Student Visa, and I am now applying for a new UK Visa
- Upload a copy of your passport and the visa/BRP you had for the previous course undertaken at Step 11 of Academic Registration. If you have already submitted your new Visa application, please also upload a PDF of your UKVI application form or Document Checklist showing the date you submitted your Visa Application. You must submit your Visa application with your new CAS before you can complete Visa Registration. You must also ensure you submit it before the expiry of your existing Visa, and before the latest permitted start date on your CAS.
- Book an appointment to attend Visa Registration and bring a paper copy of your UKVI application form or Document Checklist , your passport, and your previous BRP.

I have settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme
- Upload a copy of your passport at Step 11 of Academic Registration.

I already live in the UK and have a non-Student Visa immigration status, but none of the above apply to me
- Upload a copy of your passport/travel documents and other documents showing your Visa/immigration permission for the UK at Step 11 of Academic Registration. This may be a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), a Visa Vignette (sticker) inside your passport, or another immigration document.
- If you are an asylum seeker, upload a copy of your ARC (both sides) and every page of your Bail 201 letter under the document type 'Visa'.
- Book an appointment to attend Visa Registration, and bring your original passport/travel document and immigration documents. Please note that you must bring the originals and not copies. This is also required for home students, even if you already submitted copies of these documents when you applied to the University.

I am a UK/Irish citizen, but my Student Record shows my nationality as a different country, or I am shown as an international student
- If your student record shows your nationality as a country other than the UK or Ireland, please upload a copy of your UK or Irish passport at Step 11 of Academic Registration.
- If you are a home student, your Campus Card will be posted to the term address in your MyCampus record. If you are an international student with UK/Irish nationality, please attend Visa Registration with your passport to pick up your Campus Card. You do not need an appointment.

Uploading Images of Immigration Documents
As a student, you are required to upload copies, scans or images of your immigration documentation during Academic Registration. You must bring the original, physical versions of these documents to your Visa Registration appointment.

If you are studying at the School of Interdisciplinary Studies in Dumfries and will not be making an appointment to attend the Glasgow campus to collect a BRP, then please contact the School to arrange your visa registration.
