Disability Equality Group
The Disability Equality Group (DEG) brings together the University's Disability Equality Champion, representatives from the Equality and Diversity Unit, Student Wellbeing & Inclusion, Disability Service, School-based Disability Coordinators and the Students' Representative Council as well as disabled staff and independent student representatives. There are also members from Academic and Digital Development, People & Organisational Development and Estates.
The group acts as a channel of communication where issues affecting disabled people can be raised and addressed or referred on to appropriate bodies for action.
The Disability Equality Champion, is Mrs Christine Barr, Executive Director of People and Organisational Development. As Equality Champion they promote and raise awareness around disability equality issues, and feeds back to the Equality and Diversity Strategy Commitee, the Principal and other senior managers.
Gender Equality Group
The Gender Equality Group (GEG) brings together the University's Gender Equality Champion, representatives from the Equality and Diversity Unit; Heads of Human Resources within the Colleges; Student Support, Inclusion and Well-Being representatives, academic and support staff at different stages of their careers from across the University community (both female and male); and representatives from the Students' Representative Council.
The Gender Equality Champion is currently Prof Sara Carter, Vice Principal & Head of College of Social Sciences. As Equality Champion they promote and raise awareness around gender equality issues, and feed back to the Equality and Diversity Strategy Commitee, the Principal and other senior managers.
LGBT+ Equality Group
The LGBT+ Equality Group brings together the University's LGBT+ Equality Champion, representatives from the Equality and Diversity Unit, Students' Representative Council and both staff and student LGBT+ networks.
The group acts as a channel of communication where issues affecting LGBT+ people can be raised and addressed or referred to appropriate bodies for action.
The LGBT+ Equality Champion, is currently Professor Moira Fischbacher-Smith, Vice-Principal (Learning & Teaching). As Equality Champion they promote and raise awareness around related equality issues, and feed back to the Equality and Diversity Strategy Commitee, the Principal and other senior managers.
Race Equality Group
The Race Equality Group (REG) is co-chaired by the University's Race Equality Champion, and Prof Satnam Virdee, Director of Centre for Research on Racism, Ethnicity and Nationalism. The group brings together representatives from the Equality and Diversity Unit, Students' Representative Council and Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority student and staff representatives.
The group acts as a channel of communication where issues affecting staff and students can be raised and addressed or referred to appropriate bodies for action.
The Race Equality Champion, is currently Ms Uzma Khan (Director of Strategic Planning and Deputy Chief Operating Officer). As Equality Champion they promote and raises awareness around race equality issues, and feed back to the Equality and Diversity Strategy Commitee, the Principal and other senior managers.
The Equality Act 2010 defines race as including colour, nationality and ethnic or national origins.
