Marie Curie, Career Integration Grant: "New connections in low-dimensional topology: relating Heegaard Floer homology and the fundamental group"

Liam Watson was recently awarded a 4-year Career Integration Grant to support his research in low-dimensional topology. The main focus of the project will be on the conjectured relationship between three-manifolds with simplest-possible Heegaard Floer homology and fundamental groups that cannot be left-ordered. This is a surprising relationship that appears to have deep connections with foliations of three-manifolds and representations of the fundamental group, among others.
