Congratulations Joseph Cousins on winning the British Society of Rheology's Vernon Harrison Award
Joseph Cousins has won the British Society of Rheology's Vernon Harrison Award for his PhD thesis. He did his PhD in Strathclyde (with Nigel Mottram, Stephen Wilson and Brian Duffy) and is presently a Research Associate at UofG. Joseph said
"The project was and iCASE PhD in collaboration with the multinational chemical manufacturer Merck KGaA. As the world-leading producer of the liquid crystal used in liquid crystal displays (LCDs), Merck KGaA were interested in further understanding the leading method used to fabricate LCDs, namely the One-Drop-Filling (ODF) method. Understanding the ODF method represents a complex rheological challenge due to the anisotropic elasticity and viscosity that liquid crystals possess. As such, receiving the Vernon Harrison Award from The British Society of Rheology is a fantastic celebration of the research my supervisors and I carried out during my PhD project."
