Dr Simitev and colleagues awarded a Kelvin-Smith Scholarship grant to study and control atrial fibrillation

Dr Radostin Simitev, Prof Matthew P. Cartmell (Engineering, project lead), Prof Andrew Rankin (Medicine) and Dr Antony Workman (Cardiovascular Institute) have been awarded Kelvin-Smith Scholarship grant by the University of Glasgow for the project "Nonlinear dynamics and control of the electrophysiology of atrial fibrillation". Atrial fibrillation is a common and debilitating cardiac arrhythmia in which internal electrical properties of the heart are adversely affected. The aim of the project is to study the disease by mathematical techniques and to test the predictions in electrophysiological experiments. The award will support the research of a Postgraduate student for 4 years.
