Prof. Christina Cobbold awarded the newly established Lewis Wolpert Prize for Best Paper in the Journal of Theoretical Biology

Prof. Christina Cobbold (School of Mathematics and Statistics) together with her co-authors Drs. D.A. Ewing, B.V. Purse, MA. Nunn and S. M. White has been awarded the newly established Lewis Wolpert Prize for Best Paper in the Journal of Theoretical Biology for her work on

"Modelling the effect of temperature on the seasonal population dynamics of temperate mosquitoes"

The prize citation highlights the novel modelling approach applied to describing the spread of the West Nile Virus, the most significant cause of mosquito-borne disease in temperate regions including Europe and North America. The authors' modelling approach permits the exploration of the effects of changing climate on mosquito seasonality, and the computational simulation results of the model predict an increase in mosquito abundance under predicted/expected UK warming.
