Simulating Heart Valve Disease

Professor Xiaoyu Luo in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, and her medical collaborator Dr. Colin Berry at the BHF Glasow Centre for Cardiovascular Disease, have been awarded an EPSRC grant of £435k to support their research on mathematical and computational modelling of blood flow and the opening and closing of mitral heart valves using a world leading numerical code using finite element immersed boundary methods.

This grant will support a PhD student and a Postdoctoral Research Assistant for 3.5 years, starting in September 2011.
