Honorary degree awarded to Sir David Cox
The University of Glasgow has awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science to Sir David Cox. Sir David is a world-leader who has helped shaped the discipline of Statistics, in terms of theory, methodology and applications. Furthermore, his influence extends across many disciplinary boundaries.
Sir David has strong Glasgow associations. He has visited the University on a number of occasions since the establishment of Statistics in Glasgow by his friends David Silvey and John Aitchison in 1966. He was Mitchell lecturer and external examiner for our degree programmes in Statistics, and he has had research contact with a number of Glasgow statisticians over the years.
