Support for undergraduate students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland
We offer a range of bursaries and scholarships to students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland, undertaking their first undergraduate degree. These details are only for those that began their studies in 2023 or earlier. For infomration concering 2024 admits please see here.
RUK Access Bursary
Glasgow has a long and proud tradition of providing financial support to talented students who, for reasons of financial hardship, might not be able to take a place at University. Our RUK Access Bursary is part of our commitment to continue to attract and support students from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Eligibility for this award is based on household-income:

There is no application for the RUK Access Bursary, the information you provide in your application for fees and/or cost-of-living support to Student Finance England/Northern Ireland/Wales will be used to assess your eligibility for the bursary. You must take out the maximum means-tested loan available to you. In order for the University to assess your eligibility, you should agree to share your data on your application to Student Finance.
If you are required to repeat any year of study, the RUK Bursary will not be awarded for that year, however any extenuating circumstances will be taken in to consideration. In this instance, please contact scholarships@glasgow.ac.uk
Payments
- The RUK Access Bursary will be awarded as a cash payment.
- The RUK Access Bursary will be paid in 10 instalments from October until July; this award is based on household income*
- If your household income is less than £25,001, in Year 1 you will receive 10 payments of £300.00 and onwards from Year 2 you will receive 10 payments of £200.00, if your income remains in the same bracket.
- If your household income is between £25,001- £35,000, in Year 1 you will receive 10 payments of £200.00 and onwards from Year 2 you will receive 10 payments of £100.00, if your income remains in the same bracket.
- The RUK Access Bursary will only be awarded in years where full tuition fees apply: ie Normally Years 1,2 and 3. Bursary is not paid in Year 4 where no tuition fees are due).
These payments will be credited to the UK bank account held on your MyCampus profile; therefore it is vital that this is up-to-date at the start of the session. By submitting your bank details on the MyCampus system, you are confirming that you agree with the terms and conditions of the award(s).
*The University assesses your household income via Student Loans Company, provided you select to share information with third parties on your Student Finance application.
RUK Excellence Scholarship
The RUK Excellence Scholarship of £1,000 for each year of study will be awarded to first degree entrants who have attained AAA or better in one sitting at A Level (or equivalent). Dentistry, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine applicants are not eligible for this award.
There is no application for the RUK Excellence Scholarship; information from UCAS will be used to assess eligibility.

Payments

RUK Access Bursary Awards
These are available to new entrant full-time undergraduate students of the University of Glasgow who are fully registered for Session 2023/24 as being domiciled in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and paying full annual tuition fees. To assess your eligibility, you must be in receipt of a means tested student loan from Student Finance England/Wales/Northern Ireland. Applicants registered for the Nursing programme, Product Design Engineering programme or Postgraduate applicants are not eligible. If you are not registered for your student loan from Student Finance England/Wales/Northern Ireland by the time of November 2024, you will not be eligible for the award.
Please do not send in any supporting documentation unless specifically requested to do so by External Relations. If supporting documentation is requested, it is vital that you respond to this request within a 2 week period. If you do not respond to e-mails or submit documentation, you will not receive the RUK Bursary for that year.
Students undertaking a 2nd undergraduate degree are not eligible for the bursary.
Registration
All new entrants must ensure that the registration process on MyCampus is fully completed (both academically and financially). New entrants must, therefore, register on their academic programme by the given start date. These awards may not be deferred to the following academic year.
The RUK Bursary is awarded for a set period of study as stated in the e-mail award communication from External Relations. These cannot be extended.
The RUK Bursary is awarded each year subject to satisfactory academic progression. These awards will be renewable annually and processed automatically by the Scholarships Team. Annual award eligibility will be re-assessed year-on-year and may be reviewed in exceptional circumstances: students must notify the Scholarships Team should they wish to apply to have their award re-assessed and provide all necessary documentation within 2 weeks of request.

Data Protection
The information that will be collated and processed by the University of Glasgow will be accessed by authorised persons of the University only.
The information collated will be retained by the University for the duration of your degree and used for the purposes of (a) assessing your eligibility for the scholarships/bursaries and (b) for financial reporting purposes, and will be destroyed once these purposes are met.
By allowing the University to collate this information, or by sharing this information personally with the University, you consent to the storing and processing of this information for the stated purpose(s). The information is processed by the University in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 2018.
