Our next seminar:

Neurotechnology seminar series (V): Neurotechnology, policing and criminal justice: Navigating the new possibilities and ethical challenges

Tuesday, 12th August, 3:00 – 4:00 pm
Creativity lab - Level 6 , James Watt South (JWS), School of Engineering
University Avenue, Glasgow, G12 8QQ
Dr Allan McCay – Co-director of The Sydney Institute of Criminology

Neurotechnology is beginning to influence policing and justice - from EEG use in interrogations to brain scans in court. Looking ahead, more radical possibilities emerge: real-time brain monitoring during an offence, cognitive
manipulation, and even “supercops” cognitively enhanced for high-stakes decision-making.

These current and potential uses raise important concerns about legal responsibility, mental privacy, and freedom of thought. The talk argues that, although applications are currently limited, the trajectory of neurotechnology
in policing deserves careful scrutiny.
