The University is celebrating its 550th anniversary by announcing, as in 1901 and 1951, an extended list of people who will receive honorary degrees. The awards celebrate the University's connections with a variety of communities, national and international.
The University marks its links with Glasgow with honours for office bearers in the institutions of the city and for individuals, graduates and non-graduates, whose roots lie here but whose contribution and reputation extend to the wider world. The list also reflects the University's historic links with other institutions and extends to men and women of distinction in Scotland and elsewhere world-wide who have contributed to contemporary life in the arts, sciences and culture.
The University Chancellor will confer the degrees at a number of ceremonies during 2001.
