About us
Information Studies at Glasgow offers an exciting programme of research and teaching on the creation, management, and use of information in the digital age. Our areas of speciality are:
- Museums
- Archives
- Libraries
- Digital Humanities
- Information Management (including digital curation, video games, information visualisation and retrieval).
Our rich environment for practice-based teaching and research is immersed in heritage. And provides first hand experience in ways that knowledge has been created, preserved and communicated from the past to the digital age. Our facilities include:
- the world-class collections of the Hunterian Museum
- the University of Glasgow's Archives and Special Collections
- the Museums and Libraries of the City of Glasgow.
Our staff are active in a significant programme of interconnected research with international partners, clustered around three key areas:
- information management
- cultural heritage informatics
- digital humanities.
Learn with us
Our graduates have a high rate of employability. and our courses are accredited by the major UK professional associations for archives and library professionals.
Graduates of our MSc in Information Management & Preservation are eligible to be accredited by both the Archives & Records Association and CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals). This provides valuable professional recognition in both the archive and library fields. We are the only Museum Studies programme in the UK accredited by CILIP.
We are part of the international network of iSchools, which provides opportunities for our students and alumni.
We are home to the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) and work closely with this organisation for both teaching and research.
