We're looking for the best photographs of the Brazilian Festival on Sunday 21st 

Come along and bring your fancy camera to take snaps of the events and your friends - cash prizes for best photographer and two runners-up
How to enter: simply submit your best 10 photographs from the Festival to Gabriela Ribeiro (gabriela.ribeiro@glasgow.ac.uk or by WeTransfer.com) by Wednesday 24th. Best prize for the photographer that best reflects the diversity of culture and music of the Festival. We are looking for emotion, light and understanding of the subject. Do you have what it takes? Come along!

1st prize: £60

2nd and 3rd prizes: £40

6th October: Introduction to Brazilian Music

20th October: Samba. Guest speaker: Dr. Luís Gomes

3rd November: Bossa Nova. Guest speaker: Dr. José Coelho de Souza

(University of Manchester)

17th November: MPB

19th January: Tropicália Guest speaker: Dr. Tatiana Heise

(University of Glasgow)

2nd February: What else is there? Participants presentations on other genres and artists, including Heitor Villa Lobos, Paralamas do Sucesso, Djavan, Vanessa da Mata, Luiz Gonzaga, Milton Nascimento, Música Pantaneira, Brazilian-Scottish fusion

16th February: Participants presentations on Brazilian rock and Música Sertaneja. Performances and preparation for the Festival

 

Workshop Location

Gillmorehill campus – CTT JOHN MCINTYRE:208 FLAT        

Workshop Structure

Each session will consist of three parts:

  1. A brief presentation on one of the main Brazilian music genres, such as samba, bossa nova, tropicalism, MPB
  2. Listening to and commenting on some of the most emblematic songs and artists of that genre
  3. Group work to explore the topic in more detail according to individual interests

Some of the possible group activities are: listening to, playing, singing other songs and artists of that genre, discussing lyrics and possible translations and adaptations, discussing related cultural aspects, exploring other works of specific artists, discussing readings, exchanging information and impressions with Brazilian participants
