Welcome to Academic Policy & Governance
Academic Policy & Governance (APG) was formed on the 1st of September 2022 and brings together what was previously the Senate Office, the Academic Collaborations Office and additional staff who work in support of the University’s Learning & Teaching Strategy.
APG’s role is to oversee and develop effective and enabling academic policy, governance structures and processes across the University. This includes responsibility for Senate and its associated academic committee structure. This work plays a critical role in maintaining the standards of the University’s academic awards and the quality of the student academic learning experience. APG also enables the implementation of the University’s Learning & Teaching Strategy through provision of strategy support, particularly in the development of curriculum frameworks and higher-skills provision. Academic collaborations, through which the University works with other institutions or organisations to deliver academic programmes to students, also fall under the remit of APG – we provide specialist advice and support appropriate risk management in line with clear policy and governance structures. The team integrates expertise across a range of specialist areas. The sharing of that expertise across a broader unit will facilitate enhancement of the support we provide to our users. APG is part of the Academic Services Division, which in turn sits within the Student & Academic Services Directorate. We work in partnership with colleagues across Schools, Colleges, other University Services and with students and their representatives to deliver our services.
